Mission Real Estate

A Hip, Trendy Area Along the Elbow River!

In a neighbourhood with roots stretching back before Calgary was Calgary, Mission real estate hasn't maintained much of its original presence. Instead, the area has been able to reinvent itself as a hip, young centre of trendy restaurants, bars and boutiques. Just a few of the original homes remain, their classic 100 year-old exteriors standing in stark contrast to the much larger, more modern apartment and condo complexes that surround them. Mission has a lot to offer residents!

Mission Homes for Sale & a Long & Fascinating History

mission homes for saleThe area that is now taken up the Mission homes for sale has a long history, stretching back much farther than the city of Calgary itself. The Notre Dame de la Paix came first, a mission constructed in the 1860s by Catholic Missionaries. The area was even incorporated as its own village in 1899, the Village of Rouleaville, before being annexed into the city of Calgary in 1907. Today, the St. Mary Cathedral is the only lasting reminder of this history in an otherwise modern Calgary neighbourhood.

With the majority of its classic architecture replaced, the Mission homes are now mostly made up of high density apartment buildings, including a collection of ultra-luxurious loft-style apartments constructed just across the street from the banks of the Elbow River. Embodying a truly urban, inner-city atmosphere, the apartments and condos open up into the eminently walkable 4th Street that features a large number of quaint and trendy restaurants, pubs, cafes and boutique shops. A few remnants of the area's long history remain in the form of a small number of 100-year-old character homes whose diminutive stature ensure they stand out in the face the larger buildings that surround them.
