Inglewood Real Estate: A Bustling Arts and Culture Scene

Although it was named in 1911, Inglewood is Calgary’s oldest community. While the area has undoubtedly gone through many changes over its time, the neighbourhood has maintained its unique industrial character, with several of its original buildings still in use today. In its early days, Inglewood served as an industrial base. It attracted workers to the area and soon enough, it became a gathering point for many. In fact, Inglewood’s main street, 9th Avenue SE, was Calgary’s original downtown. Though it no longer holds this title, Inglewood is located directly across the Elbow River, west of Calgary’s current downtown. Nestled comfortably along the Bow, the location provides excellent access to the city’s pathway system, the Inglewood bird sanctuary, the Calgary Zoo, and downtown.

Residents of Inglewood reap the benefits of its excellent location, as well as access to all of the unique shops, restaurants, and venues. Inglewood real estate is composed of a relatively even mix of single detached homes, semi-detached homes, row homes, and apartments.

Unique Historical and Cultural Amenities

You can find a wealth of amenities in Inglewood. In addition to the plethora of local shops selling everything from antiques to high end clothing, the art galleries, and the fantastic restaurants (including many of Calgary’s best), Inglewood provides some wonderful recreational facilities. Among them are tennis courts, a swimming pool, an outdoor hockey rink, sporting fields, a skating rink, playgrounds, and fitness programs offered by the community association of Inglewood. The area is served by Colonel Walker Community School.

Nearby Fort Calgary also offers visitors an extensive look into Calgary’s past, with an on-site museum, replicas of the 1875 Palisade, and barracks from 1888 (It  may also be worth knowing that the fort offers an exceptional organic Sunday brunch).

Inglewood also serves as Calgary’s music hub. With live music venues throughout the neighbourhood, it has been dubbed the “Music Mile.” A wealth of unique attractions and a memorable experience has many agreeing that Inglewood is a great place to be. In fact, it was named “Canada’s Great Neighbourhood for 2014” by the Canadian Institute of Planners! Check out this wonderful neighbourhood today.
